Rodge Glass is both serious and naturally very funny. For someone who is still relatively young (this is not meant to be patronising but is said more out of jealousy!) he successfully combines vital and well rounded characters – in wholly believable and wonderfully dysfunctional family settings – with themes that transcend the domestic; covering, amongst others, race, identity, war, religion and politics. However, anyone who knows Rodge will immediately recognise the irrepressible humour evident within his work. Whether socially or publicly, Rodge can be very funny indeed and in his work this humour bubbles to the surface, always at the right moments, so the weighty issues that interest him are never dealt with a heavy hand.
Unsurprisingly Rodge is great fun to interview. He was also very candid in his responses. I hope you find what he has to say as interesting as I did.
