Louise Welsh Interview

I was hugely fortunate to attend creative writing evening classes taught by Louise Welsh and Zoë Strachan at Glasgow University back in 2001. It is testament to Louise’s (and Zoë’s) ability to impart the principles of creative writing that at least five of their students from that one class (at the last count…) have gone on to study creative writing Masters degrees and have had their work published widely.

Louise’s hugely successful work has been widely praised for its ability to cross genre and literary divides and she has built a loyal readership across the world. Her approachable, friendly and self-effacing demeanor hides a ferocious intelligence. She has always been very generous with her time in the encouragement of new writers and I’m sure this discussion of her work is of interest to both readers and writers alike.

I thank Louise once again for her help.
